I’m Going to Accept that Once and For All, Nude Lips and I Just DON’T Get Along

As I type this, I sit on my sofa rather deflated after attempting to make nude lipstick work for me. I’ve been playing around with MAC’s Touch, Burberry Lip Mist in Copper* and Natio’s Pure Lip Creme in Grace* and they look so wrong on me yet there’s something a little right about them (I apologise if I’m confusing you, I’m rather baffled myself). Nude lipsticks do what other lipsticks don’t do; they make my upper lip look darker with some sort of shadow. It’s as though that area is a lot more pigmented than the rest of my face and it’s very frustrating.

I’ve been watching loads of videos on YouTube and reading a tonne of blog posts on nude lips and one I came across said that lining the lips is a must when it comes to nude lips. So I reached for my Rimmel London Exaggerate Full Colour Lip Liner Definer in Ultimate which actually does make things a little better but there’s still a voice in the back of my mind telling me that I need to reach for a face wipe.

The only nude lip product that looks decent on me is MAC’s Cremesheen Glass in Overindulgence which actually took me a lot of convincing to accept that it suited me. Otherwise, nope. Nudes just do not suit me and I’m okay with it! I’m going to retire from even bothering with the nightmare that is nude and will reach for my trusty reds, plums or purples over a nude any day!

  1. I had the same issue with nude lips! In fact, I hated lipsticks altogether because they either made me look darker round the mouth area or they made my lips look thin and duck-like (seriously). But then I discovered sheer lipsticks! Especially the my-lips-but-better colours, because they’re sheer they just look more natural on my lips. Maybe you could try that?

  2. Have you tried Freshbrew by Mac? I think we are the same color. I have a yellow undertones too. I have to mix everything to make it work for my skintone.

Hi Jass, I’ve heard of Freshbrew but never tried it, I’ll definitely be trying it out when I next pay a visit to MAC. Thanks for the suggestion!
