I’m not a fan of using products laden with byproducts of petrol and harmful chemicals, I’d rather pay a bit more for a product knowing that its ingredients will be beneficial to my health and skin than to use a cheap product. My father has always recommended I make my own products and I also remember reading beauty books in the 90′s that my mum had; a lot of beauty advice in those books may be irrelevant in 2012 but one vivid memory I have is of one particular book where a model had her face covered in slices of strawberries. I think that was the moment I realised that the only way is natural and I was just nine!
Product of the Month | Saaf Pure Skincare Organic Hydrating Face & Lip Balm
I love Saaf so very much. The ingredients in their products are mostly organic, vegan and vegetarian friendly and halal too. Their products also contain a high amount of essential oils so there’s no need for any artificial fragrance. Some of my favourite products include the Super Hydrating Body Balm*, Foot Softening Balm* and Pure Face Cleanser* (can’t I just say all of them?) and one of those products I love is the Organic Hydrating Face & Lip Balm* which is one of the few products that managed to calm my skin down during a crazy breakout.
Double Cleansing With Antipodes!
Antipodes is a brand that’s really transformed my skin and I can’t get enough of their Grapeseed Butter Cleanser* which is what I usually double cleanse with. The New Zealand skin care brand have some of the best natural ingredients in their products including manuka honey which my skin absolutely loves and my acne hates!
Is This The New Way To Cleanse?
Could you imagine cleansing without a cleanser? This sponge* is apparently the next best thing in natural skincare and you don’t need a single cleanser to use it!
These mini body washes were limited edition to celebrate organic brand Weleda’s 90th birthday but their body washes are around and you need to get your hands on them! They smell wonderful, lather up well and leave the skin soft, smooth and never dry. My favourites are Wild Rose and Pomegranate.
This Is Why I Don’t Like Body Lotions
Natural isn’t always good and I absolutely loath body lotions and COMO Shambhala’s Invigorate Lotion* is no exception to that. In fact it’s the worst body lotion I’ve tried. Ever.
Boots’ Extract Vanilla Body Butter
I may not like body lotions but body butters are the complete and utter truth. The Boots Extract Vanilla Body Butter is light but moisturising and there’s Free Trade cocoa butter in there from the Domincan Republic in there too!
Genuine Chandrika Ayurvedic Soap
Ayurveda is such a fascinating thing for me, I’ve always been interested in the many benefits of herbs and plants so when I got to try the Genuine Chandrika Ayurvedic Soap*, I was pretty excited and it was a wonderful soap.
I hate mineral oil and you should too. It does absolutely nothing for your skin yet brands use it so often that we fail to understand just how bad it is for us. Caroline Hirons’ rant is exactly how I feel about mineral oil!
‘In my eyes, there’s little better than soft dewy skin with a wash of colour on the lips’ – I couldn’t agree more!
I love, love and love LUSH’s Buffy (formerly called Buffy the Backside Slayer) and I really like watching the videos on how they make their products. I totally want to work at LUSH and make their products!
