My Favourite Beauty Items
October 2, 2012 by · 2 Comments
Hello there Muslimah Beauty readers! I hope that you’re all having great week so far. I’m Nora from The Dollymix Diaries. Being a reader of Muslimah Beauty and have recently met the amazing blogger behind this website, I am super excited and honored to do a guest post for her lovely website. I thought I’ll write a post on my favorite beauty products, some of the products I have been using ever since I started wearing make up properly (back in 2007) and some are recent discoveries (a year or so old). I hope you enjoy reading my post! Here we go…
MAC Blot Powder Pressed (Dark)
I can’t tell you how many compacts have I gone through of this product! I have hit pan on it so many times and continued repurchasing it ever since I bought it back in 2007. I have oily skin and this product doesn’t just set my foundation, it matifies my skin and keeps the shine away. I also keep it in my handbag so that I can touch up on the go. I first blot my face with tissue paper and then using a round flat kabuki brush I press it onto my skin. I have used other powder in the past but I always came back to this product.
Benefit Dallas Blush
This blush doesn’t look interesting in the pan. It looks like a dull brown contour shade, however once swatched and applied into the skin it transformers into a lovely plum shade suitable for my skintone. I find that it also chisels my cheekbones and makes them pop. Dallas is my go to blusher!
Sleek Face Contour Kit (Medium)
This is a fairly new product in my make up routine. I like the fact that both the contour powder and the highlighter are in one compact and that a mirror is included. You can use it on the ago and touch up throughout the day. It’s also great to transform a day look into a night look by adding the highlighter to your cheekbones.I find that both the contour and highlighter match my skin perfectly.
Here are swatches of the products mentioned above:
Urban Decay Primer Potion (Original)
This product is one of the earliest make up products that I bought when I first starting wearing make up. I read a lot of raves about it in the beauty online community. I have really oily lids so I knew I had to try out this product. I was actually very surprised that it made my eyeshadow last more than 8 hours without any creasing. If any of my friends, sisters or cousins ask me what’s the first makeup item they should purchase I always direct them to this product. It is important to have a base for the eyeshadow to stick to otherwise there is no point in wearing eyeshadow if it is going to crease straight away.
MAC Blacktrck Fluidline
This is my first ever gel liner, I am really bad at applying liquid liner so this was my next thing to try . I’ve had this pot for years and it still did’t dry out which I’m very happy about. I found that using a gel liner is so much easier that using a liquid liner. I really want to try Bobbi Brown and Inglot’s gel liner next once I’m done with this one. If you have tried either please let me know which one is better!
MAC Feline Kohl Power
This is (sadly) a limited edition product. I find that it’s the only kohl eyeliner in the market that actually does what a kohl should do. It is very pigmented on the waterline and I only need to apply it once, I don’t need to go over it again like other kohl liners. However, because it’s very soft it does tend to smudge however, nothing a q tip can’t fix!
MAC Ricepaper Eyeshdow
This is a great natural everyday browbone highlighter for me. It’s not frosty or glittery, it just provides nice subtle sheen. I’m glad that it’s part of the permanent line.
Swatches of these products:
Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil
I love that Urban Decay offers these pencils in a variety of shades. They are soft, pigmented and glide onto the eyelid. I like wearing them on the lower lashline for a pop of colour. The ones pictured abover are my favourite shades. Also these can be used on the waterline.
Swatches of these eyepencils:
My all time favourite mascara’s are a tie between Diorshow and Benefit Badgal Lash Mascara. I think they both preform in the same way which is why there’s a tie between them. They both have a big fat wand which helps lengthen and volumise the lashes. Unfortunately I have run out of both and I am currently using Benefit They’re Real Mascara which is great but I don’t feel that it’s as good s the Badgal Mascara.
MAC Hug Me Lipstick
This is my second tube of this lipstick, I love it because it’s the perfect pinky brown shade for my skintone and it’s suitable as an everyday lipstick for me and it’s work friendly.
Illmasqua Sheer and Intense Lipgloss
I love the consistency of these lipglosses. They are soft, creamy and pigmented. Unlike other brands, these aren’t sticky at all so they feel light and creamy on the lips.
Swatches of the lip products:
No7 Brow and Lash Brush
I like that this brow brush is slanted and that it resembles a mascara wand. The shape is important as it can help brush bushy eyebrows, keeping them in place and it also helps in blending brow powder if I have accidently applied way too much eyebrow powder.
Inglot 30T Eyeliner Brush
I love using this brush with my gel liners. I find that it’s easier to use than an angled eyeliner brush. The fact that it is bent helps me get closer into my lashline. This brush really helps me get a precise line.
