Yes, Face Pilates Is A Thing
If you were to ask me what I prefer between yoga and pilates it would have to be the former. Pilates makes me wince with pain just thinking about it. But there’s a new kind of pilates that doesn’t leave you sore the next day, and of all places it’s for your mug. The whole thing behind face pilates is that you’re working the facial muscles to lift, tighten and get the blood circulation going. All of that without a single needle or scalpel in sight! I’ve been hooked on facial exercise ever since I watched a video of Ranjana Khan on Into The Gloss, and when I came across the FacePilates app on iPhone by renowned pilates studio, Studio Australia Barcelona I snapped it up in an instant. But before you pass face pilates off as a fad, let me make a case…
To get started with the app you have a choice of either selecting a muscle group to work on i.e. forehead, neck and mouth or you can just do a full face routine. If you go with the latter then you work from the neck up. Throughout the routine you’ve got photos and vocal instruction to help you along the way and like you Instagrammers saw, it definitely helps. There are far too many fitness apps out there that leave how to execute a move properly to your imagination.
My favourite move? The Dory. And yes it’s named after our fishy friend. You make an ‘O’ shape with your mouth and let out a sound exactly like you’re speaking whale. Hilarious. And for those of us blessed with a double chin because one was just not enough, Kiss The Ceiling will also have you kissing the extra chin away in no time.
Pilates. Doesn’t hurt. On your phone. Perfect during commute. Finding Nemo. Case closed.
